Why a transaction has a fee
A simple explanation of transaction fees and why some networks get expensive at busy times.

in words.
Computation has a cost
On Ethereum, gas measures the computational work a transaction requires. The fee depends on the gas used and its price.
Busy networks cost more
When demand for network capacity rises, the price of gas can rise. More complex actions can also use more gas.
Failure can still cost
A transaction that is included but fails can still consume gas. Paying a fee does not guarantee your intended action succeeds.
Check the complete cost
Review the network and fee estimate before signing. A lower-cost route only helps if the recipient supports it and you understand its risks.
